Westwood Hoops Clinics: Week 1

The first week of the 2015 Summer Westwood Hoops Clinics has come to an end and was a great success! We had 38 boys and girls entering 1st-3rd grade for three days of skill work and games.

The Dragons came away as the Champions, but not without good fights from the Yellowjackets, Typhoons, Bulls, and Team Fire.

Thanks to all the players for coming and our WHS players for doing a great job providing a fun learning experience for everyone!

WBA Summer Program Underway

The Westwood Basketball Association's Summer Program at the Sheehan School outdoor courts got underway this week. Though the rising 6th-9th graders were rained out on Monday, it was a great night for the 4th-5th graders on Wednesday. This year's clinics are run by former Wolverine Suzanne Meincke (Class of 2014), who executes the perfect blend of fun, learning, and developmental work for the girls. The program runs through early August so there is plenty of time to sign your daughter up at westwoodbasketball.org!

6th-9th Grade: Mondays 6:00-7:30
4th-5th Grade: Wednesdays 6:00-7:30

Norwood Hosting A Shot For Life 3v3 Tourney

3v3 Tournament to be held in Norwood on Saturday, June 27th.

Norwood Guard Meghan Reen is hosting a 3v3 Tournament to fundraise for the A Shot For Life shooting competition for which she has been selected. A Shot For Life partners with Mass General and Children's Hospital to support Brain Cancer Research. Former Westwood player Paul Calobrisi (Class of 2014) won the competition on the boys' side last year.
The tournament will be held on Saturday, June 27th at the Savage Center in Norwood. See the link below for more information and the registration form.

Hallion To Offer Summer Individual/Group Coaching

Former Wolverine stand-out and 1,000 point scorer Lindsay Hallion (now Miller) is offering private individual and small group coaching this summer. Lindsay graduated from Westwood High in 2004 as the Wolverines all-time leading scorer and winner of two State Championships, and went on to play at Harvard University where she was a two-time All-Ivy League selection. She is still at Harvard, entering her fifth season as an Assistant Coach under former Westwood Head Coach Kathy Delaney-Smith.

Rising 8th Graders Hard At Work

Our soon-to-be 8th graders are getting some good spring/summer basketball in, getting ready for summer league at Mass Premier.

We love the expanding opportunities for Westwood girls to play basketball in the off-season. Thanks to Coach Hamdan for his work!

C. White Returns to Westwood for Skills Clinic

Former Wolverine stand-out C. White ran a free clinic for girls in grades 3-8 on Tuesday, May 26th. C., now an Assistant Coach at Bentley University, emphasized fundamentals and communication to an audience of over 50 future Wolverines. We thank C. for coming back to Westwood to make an impact on our youth program and look forward to welcoming her back to run a similar clinic next fall!

Westwood Hoops Spring Clinic A Huge Success

1st-3rd Grade Group

Our Spring Clinic with the boys program was a big success with our best turnout yet. Over 130 boys and girls grades 1-8 registered. The clinic was run by Coach St. Martin and Coach Clifford with the help of several players from both programs.

Thanks to the WBA for their help and all the kids who came to play! We loved your energy and hard work, and look forward to seeing you at our Summer Clinics!

Westwood Hoops Clinics will run again this summer in July and August.

Led by WHS Coaches Steve St. Martin, Mike Normant, and Katherine Clifford, along with WHS players, the dates are as follows:

1st-3rd Grade: Monday 7/27 - Wednesday 7/29
4th-6th Grade: Monday 8/3 - Thursday 8/6
7th-9th Grade: Monday 8/10 - Thursday 8/13
